Landscaping in Reading

Landscaping in Reading

Landscaping in Reading. Landscaping project now completed.

I reckon it’s best to show some before and after photos. I also have a movie before and after so you can judge for yourself how good are work had been.
We followed a vision of an owner who knew exactly what he wanted albeit not from the very start, which caused some problems along the way.
We at Tidy Gardens would stipulate on proper thorough plan before any work is carried out. We are happy to discuss, advise and suggest our best ideas that we think will meet your desires before we start the project.

For this garden, the owners first vision was to have a semi circle pathway running between two entrances to the garden, from either side of the house. Then a large lawn area in the middle and flower beds between newly created pathway and a fence. Owners idea evolved into a patio area and another line of flags to be added along the house. Ultimately the lawn area was closed inside a small ellipse.

There’s still planting to be done, which the owner wants to do himself.

Without further ado..

Please have a look at the video showing the garden before this landscaping project

And the same video after landscaping has been done

Majority of landscaping work was done in the back garden, as shown on photos above. However, we have also been asked to shrink the front flower bed, therefore extend the driveway to accommodate 2 cars. It’s been done using same paving blocks to match the existing driveway.

Here’s what the driveway looks like after our landscaping work.

Landscaping of a front yard in Reading

Identified problems:

  • Lawn too high and growing into the pathways, pavements. Soil has built up over the years.
  • No proper border / edging between rose beds and lawn
  • Lawn difficult to mow / maintain.

What’s been done:

  • Removed old turf and excess soil and levelled all the area, returfed.
  • Edged all flower beds and tree with bricks
  • Cutting a lawn is now much easier thanks to all the edging

“Now, here on this ragged patch of earth called” a lawn..

landscaping where grass wont grow

Grass doesn’t grow well everywhere.. hence sometimes you have to come up with something different.
Here’s two patches near the house that barely got any sun.. landscaped to give a maintenance free area and of good appearance.

* Quote from 300. One of my favourites.. 🙂

Garden in Reading recently landscaped by us

Garden in Reading recently landscaped by us

Our recent work in Lower Earley / Reading involved some landscaping.

Plans were arranged with the owners who basically wanted two areas. One for kids to have their swings, slides, trampoline etc… and the other in grass. Two flower beds have also been included which have not been planted yet.
We had to plan and work around previously constructed areas like patio and pathways.. We only made one change to these which was the
extension of steps leading to the lawn. It was just two slabs before. We have rebuilt steps so that they stretch from side to side, whole length of patio.

Originally garden was just a plain, uneven, un-level tired patch of grass.
Ground consisted of very heavy clay which we have improved by incorporating a good amount of compost and mixing up clay and compost together.
It should give grass and other plants a very good base to grow on.

I hope you agree that we have turned it into something more interesting. Given some plants this garden could look amazing..
Garden’s been sectioned off using railways sleepers.

Have a look at some photos taken at different stages of this project.
Any comments are welcomed.
