Our recent work in Lower Earley / Reading involved some landscaping.
Plans were arranged with the owners who basically wanted two areas. One for kids to have their swings, slides, trampoline etc… and the other in grass. Two flower beds have also been included which have not been planted yet.
We had to plan and work around previously constructed areas like patio and pathways.. We only made one change to these which was the
extension of steps leading to the lawn. It was just two slabs before. We have rebuilt steps so that they stretch from side to side, whole length of patio.
Originally garden was just a plain, uneven, un-level tired patch of grass.
Ground consisted of very heavy clay which we have improved by incorporating a good amount of compost and mixing up clay and compost together.
It should give grass and other plants a very good base to grow on.
I hope you agree that we have turned it into something more interesting. Given some plants this garden could look amazing..
Garden’s been sectioned off using railways sleepers.

Any comments are welcomed.
or RTF turf which has some other benefits to it like; drought resistance, ability to withstand being waterlogged, better shade tolerance, also self repairing feature due to its rhizomatous growth
Before laying turf we prepare the ground in the best possible way. We rotovate, level, incorporate organic matter into existing soil to support new laid turf.
Have a look at the gallery below – Turfing gardens in Reading.
Below few photos from a front garden where we have done some brick edging and laid RTF turf. Last photo taken two weeks after job was completed. You can see how well RTF turf has established.
LAWN EDGING
Recent job included creating a new lawn area surrounded by paving blocks to act as a lawn edge
When I’m being asked to returf some gardens I often try to convince my customers to spend a bit more money and do it the right way!
Everyone who has a garden and lawn knows that they will need a lawn mower. Actually they think lawn mower is the only machine needed to look after their lawn, but is it ?
On a photo above you see a man using grass strimmer. You have to use it if you won’t plan / design your garden well. Strimming everywhere.. along the fences, walls, unedged flower beds and other inconveniences..
How about a simple solution like we did in garden below ?
– A simple block or stone buried in that sits flush with your lawn so you can run you mower along it and cut the edge nicely.
– It also prevents grass from growing into flower beds and your bulbs / flowers / weeds growing into the lawn.
Please check photos below and let us know what you think.
Are you looking for a garden landscaper to improve your garden?. Reading Landscapers @ Tidy Gardens can do it for You
Few days ago our Reading landscaper started a new project that includes:
– Removal of part of a wooden fence and a brick wall built instead.
– Brick wall with a narrow planter at the bottom to accomodate some herbs / flowers..
– Decking constructed ( 30m2 ) of hardwood timber ( western red cedar )
Some plants have to be moved as well to include japonica Hivernant and some roses. Still dormant time so these plants shouldn’t have problems to adopt in a different place..
Our landscapers definitely recommend choosing hardwood decking boards. Few advantages of this material below: –hardwood has natural, rustic, authentic appearance that none of the coatings, paints etc used on softwood can replicate. –hardwood is exceptionally strong, durable and naturally resistant to rot and insect resistant. You pay more but you get a product that will outlast any other softwood constructions. –hardwood decking is generally a very good choice for longevity, beauty, and overall performance.
Below few photos of the area under construction..
One shrub ( japonica Hivernant ) transplanted
Some photos of the deck being constructed…
With spare wood we created this bespoke and unique garden table. It was designed to fit 8 people.
And finally some photos of the overall look.. New hardwood decking and a new brick wall with a planter box built in..

Landscaping, decking & path removal, new patio laid Paul and Eddie did a fantastic job of our back garden. We had a large area of uneven ground that we needed levelling, an old concrete path to pull up and a large old decking area to remove. All done in super quick time, and a whole new paving area neatly laid. We have no access to the back, so they brought everything through the garage and kitchen every day – it was all left neat and tidy every day. They filled huge skip and carried all the slabs, hardcore etc through by hand. Paul helped w… Read more

Pauline O. Tilehurst, August 2013 Just to confirm that we employed gardener - Paul to do some work for us a while ago. The garden was
quite overgrown and unkempt.
This is to confirm that he was hardworking, did a good tidy job, and worked longer than was arranged in order to get the job done to our satisfaction. Would have no quarms about recommending him to anyone else.

The Tidy Gardens/DGL team did a first class landscaping job for us. Edward worked incredibly hard throughout and Paul's project management, attention to detail and design were really valuable, even when the scope of the project changed part way through.
I highly recommend them and will not hesitate to use them again for other garden projects in future!

Very good and reliable service I'm very happy to recommend Paul. He was very smooth and quick, after I phoned him initially, he came around 2 days after to have a look on the work to be carried out, and he gave me a quote on the following day.
I'm very happy with the results, it was a complex task, by first clearing a jungle and landscaping, and 2nd round was surface evening and turfing. I'm amazed by the results I got for my money. No doubt I will call him again if new tasks come up.Read more

Tree Stump Removal I had a large tree stump in a really inaccessible raised area, full of other overgrown shrubs/brambles/general jungle. Paul agreed to do the work on a Saturday to suit my calendar, and worked like a Trojan for a number of hours until the stump was no more. He also did a couple of small stumps/large roots that were nearby while he was there. Great job, neat and tidy, and a nice guy to do business with, I can highly recommend him.
