Lawn returfing – Reading

Lawn returfing – Reading

Latest news from Calcot ! Another garden there got a brand new lawn 🙂

What have we done ?

– Stripped old grass destroyed by builders. Yes they know how best to do it. And they don’t even use a weed killer!
– Added 10m3 of compost. Oh yes we love compost so much. A quick whiff of fresh compost works better and longer than any coffee available in the UK 😉
– Rotovated using a perfectly suitable and powerful machine for it.
– Levelled, rolled and laid new turf.
– Watered !
– Broken up concrete, added soil and converted into another small lawn.
– Of course we’ve tidied up as well

Lawn scarifying and seeding

Lawn scarifying and seeding

Last minute scarifying and overseeding in spring 2017

It’s the last call to do some scarifying and reseeding to improve your lawn. We have done it in this garden on top of some edging and turfing.
Please come back here to see more photos when grass starts to grow. It should not take more than two weeks in this weather. WATCH THIS SPACE !

LAWN EDGING
Recent job included creating a new lawn area surrounded by paving blocks to act as a lawn edge

When I’m being asked to returf some gardens I often try to convince my customers to spend a bit more money and do it the right way!
Everyone who has a garden and lawn knows that they will need a lawn mower. Actually they think lawn mower is the only machine needed to look after their lawn, but is it ?

trimming lawn edge

On a photo above you see a man using grass strimmer. You have to use it if you won’t plan / design your garden well. Strimming everywhere.. along the fences, walls, unedged flower beds and other inconveniences..

How about a simple solution like we did in garden below ?
– A simple block or stone buried in that sits flush with your lawn so you can run you mower along it and cut the edge nicely.
– It also prevents grass from growing into flower beds and your bulbs / flowers / weeds growing into the lawn.

Please check photos below and let us know what you think.

Lawn aeration – is it worth it ?

Lawn aeration – is it worth it ?

Lawn aeration.. do you want a better looking lawn ?

We have aerated and top dressed about 300m2 of this lawn last year. I started a regular lawn cut in this garden again this year and had a chance to see the results..

Below a photo right after aeration and top dressing.
Unfortunately I haven’t got an earlier photo but I’m sure you can see a terrible state this lawn was in. It suffered from a severe compaction, it was difficult to stick a knife few cm in..
It was dry and more brownish than green..
Few other photos show the same lawn this year. It recovered fully and quickly after our lawn aeration service which allowed more air and nutrients to get to the roots.

It is worth mentioning that not every lawn will benefit as much from aerating as this one. Some lawns don’t even need aeration and could benefit more from moss treatments, overseeding, scarification or simple lawn feeding.. .
Let Tidy Gardens assess your lawn and provide best treatment it requires.
